ELA News - HIP of NY

Health Insurance Plan of New York is a company with a distinguished 54-year history of providing its members with quality, affordable health care. They have almost 800,000 members in the New York metropolitan area and have been universally recognized for health care excellence.

InformationWeek 500 chose Health Insurance Plan of New York as its #1 most innovative company for 2002!

In late November 2000, HIP Administrators was faced with a large claims inventory and a short time frame to implement imaging and data capture systems. Late December, COMCOM staff installed scanners and a storage repository. HIP personnel were trained for the scanning process and began to capture images to the repository within three weeks of contracting with COMCOM.

Meanwhile, the HIP business unit and IT department worked with COMCOM to refine front-end edits and upload file formats. The knowledge and experience COMCOM provided significantly eased their transition from paper based data entry to an electronic process. By January 2001, the HIP mainframe was receiving electronic submissions of HCFA-1500 from one business line. Three months later they doubled the system capacity to handle a second business line and COMCOM provided national standard EDI data streams.

Recently, HIP acquired Vytra Health Plans and will be expanding their use of COMCOM solutions to include the Vytra HCFA-1500 and UB-92 claim volume. HIP document turnaround time has been reduced, operator productivity greatly increased and a significant portion of scanned claims auto adjudicate. In 2002, HIP processed 12 million claims.

Employee Benefit Management Services (EBMS) uses the ELA form processing system to increase their data entry processing to an average of 1000 claims per operator.
